Just wanted to show some of Destiny’s freestyle Summer Sisterlocks(tm).
Notice the smiles. She is so estatic to spend less than five minutes a day on her hair these days as opposed to thirty five and she says that she has so much more confidence. I recall her telling me that several of her friends of all races have gone wild about her new look and have frequently asked her if they could get them also. She told me that she has always wanted to find a solution that would allow her to be versitile, active, confident and stylish. Taking into account that she is an active teenager who loves to swim, run, etc…, we decided to install small-medium Sisterlocks(tm) so that she could have maximum volume and style.

Just to think my beautiful [freshly washed and tightened] Sisterlocks(tm) are only four months old. It has been a fascinating four months full of pleasant suprises, peace and pride. I take so much pride in the hair that I never fully understood until I made a pledge to love my hair unconditionaly. I fell in love with Sisterlocks(tm) before I truly knew what they were all about. Like most of you, I simply looked at them from an aesthetic point of view. I thought they were georgous, but they are so much more than that. Sisterlocks(tm) are a statement of confidence, optimism, spiritualism and freedom.
I am no longer a slave to my hair or the manufacturers who prey on unenlightened women of color seeking viable solutions for beautiful, shinny, manageable hair. No more gels, creams, lotions, potions and unnecessary trash in my hair or on my scalp. I use purely organic infusions since I became a SS (Sisterlocks Sister). I create my own infusions and I use Sisterlocks(tm) products also because they are fabulous. Before I locked my hair, I had a seriously eronous view of what my true texture was like. I thought my hair was much kinkier than it truly is.
My texture has also changed a lot because of the way I learned to care for it. It is healthier, radiant, supple and more resiliant. I have a very simple regemine these days. I have saved countless dollars and styling time; but best of all I love my hair! I love the way it seems to have its own unique energy and shapes itself with very little hydration and manipulation. I never spend any more than 10 minutes styling my hair and that is only for a special occassion. Otherwise, I spritz with my own special infusion, shake and go.
I became a Sisterlocks(tm) believer after seeing and hearing countless true stories and meeting with several natural SS who were living, loving and practicing Sisterlocks(tm). I love the fact that Sisterlocks(tm) are stylish, affordable, versitile and practical. They were beautiful. Curled, twisted, freestyle, ponytails, up-do’s and so much more, Sisterlocks(tm) are fierce!

Q & A:
Q. What are Sisterlocks(tm)?
A. Sisterlocks(tm) is a revolutionary natural hair management system that allows women with tightly textured hair to take advantage of a wide range of today’s hairstyles without having to alter the natural texture of their hair. Sisterlocks(tm) uses the natural hair to produce small locks that can be styled in the same ways as chemically relaxed hair. It involves no chemicals to be added to the hair. No extensions, no glues, solvents or attatchments.
Sisterlocks(tm) transcend the boundaries of natural hair’s limitations and managibility. They are small, highly stylable locks of hair. Wear them in a ponytail, an up-do, flat twists, braided, freestyle, roller set, straw set, spiral curls, pin curls or just about anything else imaginable. Best of all they do not alter the natural state of your hair and the kinkier, the better! Finally, a natural state of being that embraces our femininity and our African heritage without any gels, waxes, chemicals, pomades or anything but time, shampoo, manipulation and water. That is why I believe in, live in and practice Sisterlocks(tm).

There is no age limit to Sisterlocks(tm).

Meet Destiny, my newest Sisterlocks(tm) baby.
(Destiny before her two day Sisterlocks installation)
I’m so proud of her and her lovely locks. Her installation took me two days to complete because as you can tell, little momma has a lot of hair.
She has so much more confidence with her hair now because she has no more hair blues. No more 3 hour styling woes. Yes three hours because we used to have to wash, deep condition, dry in lots of sections if we were flat ironing or curling or we could do roller sets that would take an hour and a half to dry but would only last a few days.
Her natural texture is very curly because of her father and her Nanna. A lot of multiracial children have hair issues like hers. It would become tangled very easily. She always had to worry about humidity, the shower, rain, swimming, blah..blah..blah.With her new Sisterlocks(tm), Destiny can simply wash and go if she wants. Her hairstyling routine has been cut in less than half the time it used to take. She can plait her hair while it’s still damp and let it air dry (as shown in the photos shown above) and it enhances her fabulous natural waves. She can also do roller sets with steam rollers, rubber or magnetics, bantu knots, free form, flat twists, corn rows, ponytails, updo’s and so much more. There are no more tangles and no dreading her hair styling routine, just smiles.

(braided weave)

Until a few years ago I thought that I had to be chemically enhanced to be loved and romanced. As a woman of color, this is a very real issue in this country. Let’s get real for a few moments shall we. Every black woman in America has been misjudged by someone at some time and place in her life for something as trivial and as monumental as her hair. Kinky, coiled, curly or “nappy”. We adopt inferiority complexes about our hair from the media, our peers, loved ones and perfect strangers. What do they know?
Some of us carry that baggage from the cradle to the grave. I say it’s time to exhale and let it all go. We are all uniquely beautiful in our own way. Going natural i’s a very personal decision and I’m not attempting to “convert” anyone; I simply want to champion those of us who have evolved mentaly and spiritualy to acknowledge that there is nothing wrong with the kinks in our hair, it’s our kinky minds that poses problems. Love your natural hair and it will love you back.
As for me, I began the difficult process of slowly untangling myself from the matrix of “lyes” a few years back. Originally I didn’t think that I could do it. I had always surrounded myself with people who looked like what I thought I wanted to look like and dated the types of guys who would not support me in a decision to be my most natural self. You know the types of men who only want a woman if her hair is “unbeweavable”, silky straight and down to her butt. All I had heard growing up was that so-and-so was so pretty because of her hair and all of the women that were celebrated in the media didn’t have kinky hair.

Kinky hair was not cute! That was the message I got growing up. “Fix her hair”, “Oh your hair is so KINKY”, “She needs a perm” and other such negative comments never helped my self esteem or that of any of my friends. I took this mentality from my adolescence into my early adulthood. I had every wig and weave available for over a decade. Madness. Fortunatly for me, I was finally able to move beyond that realm of negativity wrapped up in pretty lies. There was nothing wrong with my natural hair. God loved me enough to create me that way. Who was I to tell him that his design was flawed?

(braids)

You don’t need to immitate anyone else to be beautiful. Deciding that I wanted to go natural was just the first step. I tried all sorts of natural styles and I was fine until I spotted a cute relaxed style one day in a magazine and decided that I just had to have it. Well, the day af ter I had it relaxed (by another professional) all of my hair began to shed and break off. That was my final attempt at relaxing my fragile hair. I took my clippers and shaved it all down to a very cropped ceaser. Remember Grace Jones. Yeah, that was it. I colored it a mild shade of Auburn and allowed it to grow.

(loc extensions)

My once fragile hair began to grow faster than my patience. You would think I had learned by now right? Somewhat. I tried all sorts of natural styles, but quickly became frustrated with my hair being dry and brittle no matter what I did. I decided to seriously explore locks and I knew that I wanted them if I could have micro sized locks that allowed me to retain my femininity and my desire for versitility. I began to investigate Sisterlocks(tm) and aftera very short time I decided not only to live the life, but to become a representative. So began my natural life and I love it!

Life after Sisterlocks(tm) is so Beautiful!
